Kisimul Castle guide leaflet
The official visitors guide to Kisimul Castle- English language edition.
Accessible only by boat, Kisimul is among Scotland’s most dramatic medieval strongholds. It was built by the MacNeil's of Barra, probably in the 1400s, and stands on an important sea-route, connecting them to the fiercely independent Lordship of the Isles. Its rebirth as the official clan seat was the life’s work of a 20th-century clan chief, Robert Lister MacNeil of Barra.
