The Lady and the Unicorn Sense of Touch Tapestry
The original tapestries are the most celebrated set that have survived from the medieval period. They consist of six which can now be found in the Cluny Museum, Paris and includes the mesmerising The Lady and the Unicorn. These tapestries depict the five human senses and the sixth is called "To My Only Desire".
This tapestry shows the Lady touching the flag staff and the Unicorns horn, depicting the sense of touch.
Note the`mille fleur' (thousand flowers) covered with tiny flowers, among which can be seen pansies, violets, primroses and periwinkles.
