Maeshowe is a Neolithic chambered cairn on Orkney built around 2800 BCE and is a wonderful example of Neolithic craftsmanship.  The dragon is thought to have been carved into the stone wall in the 12th century by one of the Norsemen who broke into Maeshowe.
