Hanging Decoration - Maeshowe Dragon

Beautifully hand crafted, this Hanging Decoration - Maeshowe Dragon features a plush dark blue fabric carefully embroidered with silver beading and thread. Crafted by St Nicolas, who for 30 years have worked with a small Christian charity in Thailand, Honduras and India. They help women in rural areas find work within their community rather than having to leave home to work in a city.

Thought to have been carved in the 12th century by one of the Norsemen who broke into Maeshowe, a Neolithic chambered cairn situated on Orkney, the dragon was cut into the stone wall at the same time as the mound-breakers inscribed the runes that cover the interior of the prehistoric cairn.
