Arbroath Abbey is a Scottish location of great historical significance. Built in 1178 by King William the Lion and consecrated in 1197 in dedication to the martyred Saint Thomas Becket, this grand red sandstone building was a fixture for Benedictine monks for nearly 400 years.
Arbroath abbey is also famous for its connection with the Declaration of Arbroath, which is believed to have been drafted by one of the Abbots.
