A tower stood on the site of Tolquhon Castle in Aberdeenshire from the early 1400s, but its fine enlargement was commissioned by Sir William Forbes in the 1580s. A rich and powerful laird, Forbes left his stamp throughout this handsome Renaissance residence. The legacy of Forbes and his aristocratic wife Elizabeth Gordon also survives at their elaborate tomb in the nearby village of Tarves. This extensively illustrated book covers the castle, the tomb and the story of the Forbes family.
