Arbroath Abbey Guidebook
£1.50
Read the official souvenir guide to Arbroath Abbey, a location of great historical significance.
Built in 1178 by King William the Lion and consecrated in 1197 in dedication to the martyred Saint Thomas Becket, this grand red sandstone building was a fixture for Benedictine monks for nearly 400 years.
The abbey is also famous for its connection with the Declaration of Arbroath, which is believed to have been drafted by one of the Abbots.
This guide paints a colourful picture of the Abbey’s past, both as a setting of religious sanctity and of political renown.
